ISLAMABAD: Work on housing projects announced by Prime Minister Imran Khan has come to a halt. According to the details revealed in the Public Accounts Committee meeting in this regard, according to which the contractors have stopped work on all the government funded housing projects due to cost increase months ago, due to which 5 million houses will be constructed as per the vision of the Prime Minister. According to media reports, a meeting of PAC was held under the chairmanship of Public Accounts Committee Rana Tanveer Hussain. During the meeting, Secretary Housing Dr. Imran Zeb briefed the committee on ongoing projects of Federal Government Employees Housing Authority (FGEHA) and Pakistan Housing Authority Foundation.

The committee was informed that the work on housing schemes, which was started during the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) era, was halted by the government in August last year after a sharp rise in prices of surplus and cement.
According to media reports, Secretary Imran Zeb told the meeting that construction work on government housing projects was going on as per schedule, but in August 2021, the price of Surrey increased from Rs. 140,000 per tonne to Rs. 210,000 after an extraordinary increase. Done. He further said that the price of cement also increased dramatically during the same period. As a result of this dramatic increase, contractors have demanded a revision of costs, but since the increased charges exceeded the limits set by the Public Accounts Committee and the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority, as well as the relevant rules, the Ministry of Housing Had rejected their demand.
