ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President and Leader of the Opposition Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has filed a petition in the Accountability Court seeking exemption from the Ramzan Sugar Mills reference.  According to details, Shahbaz Sharif filed a writ petition in the accountability court.  The petition took the position that as the Chief Minister of Punjab I saved billions of rupees of the people, my actions harmed my family.




 The petition further said that I am not a shareholder nor a director in Ramzan Sugar Mill, while I have also distributed my property among the children.  Referring to the allegations leveled by NAB, Shahbaz Sharif said that NAB has not been able to prove any allegation yet.  He said that the court is requested to order acquittal from the reference.

 It may be recalled that earlier the Leader of Opposition in the Punjab Assembly Hamza Shahbaz had filed a petition for acquittal in the Ramzan Sugar Mills reference.



 It should be noted that according to the report of private TV channel ARY News, Ramzan Sugar Mill has disappeared from the stock by putting it in the name of Chinese traders.  When the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) issued notices to the said traders, the matter came to light.  Imtiaz Bhatti, a trader, said that he did not buy sugar from Ramzan Sugar Mill this year but 25 vehicles have left in my name.


 Mill management and base manager have misused our ID card.  He said that 5 vehicles were purchased in the year 2021 and FBR has demanded tax on 40 vehicles.  On the other hand, a businessman named Mubashir Ahmad told FBR that so far in the year 2022, 70 vehicles have been removed on my identity card.  There are 200 bags of 50 kg sugar in a car. When we go to ask for records, we are abused and no record is given.


 The traders, while talking to the Federal Board of Revenue, said that they have not bought as much sugar as the tax is being demanded from them. During the hearing of Ramzan Sugar Mills case, Shahbaz Sharif had told the court that Ramzan Sugar Mill is not my business, this mill belonged to my father, therefore I have nothing to do with this mill either.  Lost billions, this is the same case as in NAB.
